Whether it be your older siblings "mix" CD's, which were compiled from illegally downloaded soundtracks, or a beat up old CD from the local library, as a child, what was your first ever album you listened to?

No such thing as CD's when I was a child. My father worked for Lee Gordon, if anyone else is old enough to remember him. Lee Gordon was a promoter who brought artists out to Australia and would hand out photo's and 78RPMH records which my father would bring home for me. So I got to hear Jimmy Rogers, The Kaylen Twins and The Everley Brothers to name a few. When I was older I was much in demand as a babysitter and one couple I babysat for had a large collection of records and I got to hear Johnny Matthis, The Platters and other artists from the '50's but by the time I wanted to buy records such as The Beatles, Searchers and Bilyl Thorpe and The Aztecs there were 45's and 331/3 or LP's. I think the first CD I bought was Michael Jackson. I did start replacing my LP's with CD's but when it came time to toss Tommy by The Who and the Beatles white album I couldn't do it and decided to keep them all. Every now and then I'll give one or 2 a spin, some date back to the sixties and I still love them but I also have many of them in CD form as well.

Pink floyd I think. Had a massive mix that my parents exposed me to except Abba, REM, and cat Stevens who I didn't even know about until I was in my twenties. Super glad for that, still hate them even now.

Besides my dad's my first record I bought was in 1974 and it was Pink Floyd's Pipers at the gates of Dawn, I was 10 and my friends older brother played it for us and I fell in love with it, still do, so I went to Umbrella records in Adelaide, which had a strange smell duh, and bought my own copy still have it plus other Floyd stuff.

My neighbours introduced me to classics at age 11 when they played a 78rpm of Swan Lake ballet. I've been hooked on classics ever since. However my Mum and Dan gave me a record of Nat King Cole for my 21st after my then boyfriend took me to a concert at the White City stadium to hear Nat. It was the biggest "live" concert Sydney had ever had at that time.

I stayed with 3 lots of family 1 in Sydney, 1 in Victoria and 1 in Adelaide. Well my aunt in Adelaide brought me a cassette of Lover Boys Working for the Weekend and some of their other hits. I loved that cassette to death. I had a walkman and it came every where with me. My brother would record records to cassettes for me bands like The Who, The Jam, Beatles, Pink Floyd and so many more. Good memories.

My parents would have purchased them from the Record Club as we only had a radiogram like most folk back then. (there were no tapes, cds, tv etc) As children, we spent many happy times engrossed in the short wave stations on the radiogram, attempting to identify which country they were broadcasting from.
