I would like to take my doggy with me on a bus
Katalin G03-Nov-21
I don t have a car. My doggy is not allowed on public transport where I live. I am not alone with this problem. Just to access with my doggy some nice, big parks or the ocean would be great. Some countries and cities have no problem with dogs on busses. What do you think?

My Malamute would take up two seats. She would also fill the bus with her doggy farts.

I’m all for it. I love animals. It should be allowed. Dogs are human therapy. If some hospitals accept animals. Why not on buses. The only thing I can think off. If they make a mess. Either throw up or toilet. So cleaning up would be an issue and maybe the smell. Then you get people saying why not my cat, or bird….. then there’s animal fights or barking or hissing. You get what I’m saying. ??????

I had no car at a time not that long ago and I needed to take my dog to the vet. I thought at the time that if I could take him on the bus it would save me a huge problem and would have had his s pain seen to. I think there was a bus company that did make it possible to take a dog on the busses. I think it was the busses in Wellington. It would be so handy. Have a think please bus companies.

If you want to take your doggy somewhere -- maybe check Uber to see if they'd agree to it. Dogs don't belong on busses -- too many problems could arrive -- from accidents to people afraid of dogs, to a perfectly well behaved dog having a bad day. Many children could be upset if they are afraid of dogs. There are always exceptions like Edith mentioned.

I couldn't think of anything worse .I love dogs there are people who cannot control their children never mind a dog .Guide dogs are so well trained I welcome them on any transport .

Some countries don't have problems with dogs but thank goodness we do here. I have seen dogs alight from a taxi in London and I have had to step over a dog on a train in London, I have also side stepped doggy doo in and around England, not nice at all and I have waited for a lift in Paris and when the door opened out came a dog on a lead. When I go out and about I leave my cats at home because that's where they belong. What about Uber? Do any of them accept dogs as passengers? However, one thing I will say about dogs in other countries, they are far better behaved in Europe than they are here. They can socialize without the need to bark constantly.

Dont see why not if the doggy is on a leach and well controlled, and no accidents lol that could be a little bit embarrassing .

I think that's a big part of the problem - potential for fights and, well, canine residue

i think dogs should be allowed on public transport - perhaps they need some sort of a certificate to show they are well behaved -

As long as they are secure on a short lease, I would have no problem!! What I do object to is the likes of a Hilton with a small dog in a bag!

Ok if person is blind or needs a assistance dog but not on a bus. Too confining space. Train yes. It always amazes me how the dog knows when to go or what station is to get off.

All I know is buses allow service animals with dog licenses. I've also seen people take their small animals into some casinos.

Provided they are well-behaved and not going to the toilet everywhere, I think they should be allowed on public transport. When I was younger, staff on public transport used to turn a blind eye to people on public transport with their dogs, even though technically it was illegal. I agree with you - it should be legalised, with good behaviour conditions.

Personally I do not use public transport, but I see no reason why people should not be allowed to take their companion dog on the bus with them. I think it is discrimination. Some peoples only company is their dog.

If it's a guide dog or trained for special needs, most capital cities will let them on. If not the cabs will take them

The main problem would be other passengers. Some would object. Others would be objectionable. Many would want to pat and play with the dogs.. It's a no win situation.

Particularly if they need to get their dogs to a vet. But I think dogs need to be suitably trained for this, if you have a reactive animal in this sort of environment it could be dangerous. The rest for sure, I would love to be able to take my dog on public transport.

I'm sure there are people who do not appreciate being that close to dogs. I can't imagine why because I'd love being surrounded by dogs, but I'm not like everyone. Perhaps if I had small children or a baby, I would be concerned. Does that even make sense? I live in the country where there are no busses so it might not even be feasible. Just wanted to throw it out there.

Often dogs may urinate or feel they need to use their bowls. Who cleans this up? I know with my boy he may get the urge to urinate and that would not be pleasant for other passengers. Some passengers may want to pat the dog and this can be risky. A safety issue for all. There are pros and cons unfortunately.

Years ago my daughter was a puppy walker & had the job of taking that Labrador every where she went. One Mother's Day were were having lunch with friends, down at Mick O'Sheas & she wanted to take the dog. The Manageress couldn't say "No" & afterwards she came up & complimented my daughter for the dogs behaviour. He sat underneath the table with just his head poking out, very well behaved. I believe that only Guide Dogs & assistance dogs should be allowed on buses provided they wear a uniform of some kind which says they are working.

That was why the Labradoodle was bred, so blind people who have the allergy can also have a guide dog (ie, they were originally bred to be hypoallergenic guide dogs). Poodles do not have the same hair as other breeds, and do not trigger the allergy. If dogs were allowed on buses that would create a problem for people with the allergy.

I wish it were possible for you take your dog but I would be surprised if it was allowed unless it was a dog for a blind person. My fur baby is a smaller smaller dog who has a few health issues so I take her for walks in her dog pram and she loves it.

As long as the dog is well trained and more importantly socialised. You can't just expect an animal to automatically ride well with you, crowds and a great deal of noise in some tubes. It can take years to train any animal to deal with such busy situations. Including total trust in you as the Alpha of the dogs pack.

We just recently had a very bad experience, a dog attack. Big shock. My dog now is afraid of walking in the neighbourhood so it would be even more important to be able to go somewhere on bus with him. Will put him in a bag?!

I would not take myself on it if I can help it. Not travelled on one for many years. If the bus/train are crowded this would upset the dog and certainly many people are frightened of dogs and this could cause a problem and I think the dog would come off second best. If you cannot walk the dog to where you want to go then leave it home.
